Youth Program

Application for the 2008 Class VIII was closed on December 3, 2007.

Leadership Oklahoma recognizes the importance of investing in our youth. We know they are our future leaders and we’re weary of seeing our young talent leave our state. We want to entice our youth to stay in or return to Oklahoma. With this in mind, in the summer of 2001, Leadership Oklahoma expanded its mission by building a program that would help us accomplish this goal. Youth Leadership Oklahoma (YLOK) was established.

The Selection Committee will be meeting in January to select this year’s class and the youth will be notified by March if they have been selected or not.

Approximately 50 high school juniors from across Oklahoma are selected for Youth Leadership Oklahoma. The class will spend June 8-13, 2008 traveling to selected locations in Oklahoma to learn about and experience our state’s treasures, meet adult community and state leaders and develop personal leadership skills. Each student selected will receive a scholarship for program expenses related to transportation, lodging and meals.

  • Applicants must be high school juniors or home-schooled equivalent.
  • Applicants must live in Oklahoma.
  • Applicants must have at least a 3.25 grade point average on a 4.0 scale
  • Class members must attend the program week in its entirety.
  • Class members must agree to abide by all Leadership Oklahoma policies and procedures.

To find out more about YLOK click on Youth Application or the Youth Leadership tab at the top of the page or contact the LOK office at 405-848-0001 or by email if you have any questions.

Community Application to Host a Program

Each year the foundation of Leadership Oklahoma is the class program, an educational, issues-oriented ten-month experience. Monthly sessions are held in communities throughout the state. Each class is exposed to the numerous social and environmental complexities of the state in order to stimulate inquiry, analysis and independent development of solutions for the public good.

To host a class program for 2008-2009, a completed community application must be submitted to Leadership Oklahoma no later than May 1, 2008. Submit completed application to: Leadership Oklahoma, 5500 N. Western, Suite 142, Oklahoma City, OK 73118 or (fax) 405-848-0019 or lok@leadershipoklahoma.com. Communities will be notified no later than June 1 regarding the selection of host communities. After notification communities work with the statewide Leadership Oklahoma Program Committee to submit a draft agenda and budget.

Responsibilities of a host community and the selection criteria used to determine host communities are outlined in community application form.
